Bill-

As an 18 year old, I'm really not familiar with the prospect camp. Hell, how could I have been? Who covers the prospect camps in depth? This is what sets you apart from the rest: I've been reading up on the Flyers for god knows how long, and you are the only one that even glazes over the camp, let alone cover and analyze it. It really solidifies your position as the quintessential hockey writer. And I want to let you know, as I and we have countless times, that it is more than a privilege to have you covering our Flyers.

All that being said, I find it genuinely surprising that a fight went down. I thought for sure that wouldn't happen. I figured, obviously, there'd be contact, but not a fight!

The 2 players that fought are from different WHL teams, which probably played a factor. Guys will try to show every facet of their game to impress the team, too.

I definitely understand that, but I was expecting it to be like a training camp or something- play hard ajd tough, and try to impress, but I just figured a fight in that kind of setting carries a little bit of a stigma, ya know?

Bill is a great hockey journalist. Honestly, how lucky are we to have him on this site, posting articles in the early AM?

If you want additional great sports journalism, many here would also suggest you follow Howard Eskin.

Are they bringing in all these players from Medicine Hat to help reduce injuries? ... just couldn't help myself sorry.

Hi Bill and Buzzers,

I have not paid as much attention to this camp as I should.

So pardon my ignorance but, is there any chance Laughton makes the team this year? And if not him, any of these prospects? Not just to start the season but the pecking order for call ups as well?

You hate to see a kid like Ghost get hurt in a game that is pretty much meaningless for a draft pick like him. I guess that is one of the dangers of these type of games at this time of year.

I really hope lauridsen has what it takes to get to the NHL. Even if all it is is a 3rd pairing type.

My thoughts exactly yesterday. Was that really necessary?

We don't need our first round selection taking out our third rounder in camp. Nobody's here this weekend to win a spot on the roster and Laughton doesn't have to prove anything yet.

Cripes, take a run at an undrafted camp invitee if you feel the need to make your presence felt. Not at a guy the team would really like to develop playing a position of need.

Bill, is there a hitting protocol in these camps or is it survival of the fittest? I say that Ghost better get used to getting hit or do a better job at avoiding them. As long as the hits are clean what's the problem?

What is the expected deal to sign Semin? Has there been anything out there?

I would assume the delay is that he wants a long term deal and teams dont want to commit to him long term?

From spectors hockey this morning....

CSNWASHINGTON.COM: Chuck Gormley reports Capitals GM George McPhee hasn’t discussed the possibility of re-signing Alexander Semin. Gormley claims Semin has received interest from Pittsburgh and Carolina but is apparently holding out for a two-year, $10 million deal.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: He’ll be waiting a while for that kind of deal. While NHL general managers usually have little restraint when it comes to spending on free agent talent, Semin is one of those rare exceptions where a bad reputation – deserved or not – is having an adverse effect upon his market value. If he hopes to play in the NHL this season, he may have little choice to be to sign a one-year deal for under $5 million .

That's interesting. I would give him 2 years $10 mill. His cap hit would come off the books just at the right time, when G and the young bucks need new deals.

I would be on board with that actually. As much as I hate Semin.

Two years at $10M seems reasonable to me. Not sure why he can't get that. I would be willing to go one year at 5.5-6M.
